CASE STUDY · OFFSHORE WIND
Rotation and balance control for a floating wind pilot
Control software that keeps a wind turbine on a floating structure at the right angle and orientation, in all weather.
1The challenge
A pilot project set out to test a new floating wind concept offshore. The floating structure was assembled in Norway and towed to the UK sector, where it was connected to an offshore installation. A turbine on a floating structure has to be kept at an optimal angle and orientation, whatever the wind and waves do.
2Our solution
- Development of rotation and balance control software for the floater
- Collection and transmission of data from sensors above and below the waterline
- Safety and automation system and SCADA for the floating structure
3The result
- Rotation and balance control developed for a first-of-its-kind floater
- Sensor data from above and below the waterline available to the operator
- A pilot delivery that helps qualify the concept for full-scale floating wind
