SIL-compliant wireless gas detection for a refinery tank farm
A new fire and gas system with wireless gas detectors gives a large refinery tank farm better detection coverage, without kilometres of new cable.
1The challenge
The offsites area of a refinery, with its large tank farms, needed better gas detection coverage. Running new field cabling across such large areas is costly and slow, and every cable route adds work in an operating plant.
2Our solution
- Full EPCI-C scope: engineering, design and installation of a new fire and gas system
- HIMA HIMax safety system connected over PROFIsafe to a wireless gateway
- Wireless ISA100 network with access points and battery-powered gas detectors
- Cabinet assembly, internal testing and simulation before delivery to site
3The result
- Improved gas detection coverage across the tank farm area
- Lower installation cost than an equivalent wired solution
- The first SIL-compliant wireless gas detection system in Norway
