CASE STUDY · OFFSHORE OIL AND GAS
1 184 barriers replaced on live safety systems
Ageing intrinsic safety barriers in 18 safety and control cabinets were replaced while the systems stayed in full operation.
1The challenge
Ageing intrinsic safety barriers across turbine control, process shutdown, emergency shutdown and fire and gas had to be replaced, without shutting down the systems that protect the installation.
2Our solution
- Replacement of 1 184 barriers in 18 control cabinets
- New intrinsic safety calculations for all loops and updated loop documentation
- A controlled method for live systems: each signal inhibited before its card was removed, then tested before the inhibit was released
3The result
- Complete change-over carried out with the systems in full operation
- No shutdowns and no unwanted incidents
- Updated, verified loop documentation for every affected signal
