CASE STUDY · OFFSHORE OIL AND GAS
A complete SIL 2 HIPS package, from sensor to valve
Two SIL 2 high integrity pressure protection systems protect downstream process equipment against overpressure, delivered as one package with one responsible supplier.
1The challenge
Flotation cells downstream of the produced water separators had to be protected against overpressure from a possible gas blow-by through the water outlet. The operator wanted one supplier to take responsibility for the complete safety loop, from measurement to shut-off.
2Our solution
- Two SIL 2 rated HIPS systems with HIMA Planar4 logic solvers
- Radar level transmitters with bypass chambers and stilling wells
- Two 10-inch axial-flow HIPS valves
- Management, coordination and completion of the full equipment package
3The result
- One supplier with overall responsibility for sensors, logic solvers and final elements
- A hard-wired logic solver without application software, which leaves no software to attack
- A complete, documented safety loop handed over as one package
