CASE STUDY · OFFSHORE OIL AND GAS
Fire and gas system renewed with zero downtime
The server and network infrastructure behind the fire and gas system on a producing offshore platform was renewed while the platform stayed in full operation.
1The challenge
Ageing servers, operator stations, screens and firewalls in the platform’s fire and gas safety system had to be replaced to keep the system supportable and cyber-secure. The change-over had to happen without stopping production and without weakening the safety function at any point.
2Our solution
- New host-based, fully virtualised server infrastructure with eight thin-client operator stations
- New network structure and firewalls designed for today’s security requirements
- Engineering, integration and commissioning of the final two fire and gas nodes
- Network monitoring integrated in the operator HMI, alongside the fire and gas functions
3The result
- Change-over completed in full platform operation, with zero downtime
- A modern, cyber-secure architecture and a significant security uplift for the operator
- Completes a node-by-node hardware renewal across all equipment rooms on the platform
- Continues a long-term renewal programme where Origo is the operator’s fire and gas partner
